GM-646 Gentlemen:
The following is submitted in response to your letter dated April 14, 1980 concerning I.E.Bulletin 80-08.
The Vogtle specification X4AQ10, "Pi;e Penetrations", calls for the use of flued head containment penetrations. tith outer sleeve welds which form a part of the containment pressure boundary.
For penetrations equipped with intermediate sleeves, the sleeve-to-flued head weld is performed at the vendor shop. These welds are subject to 100% radiography at tlie vendor shop in accordance with NC-5200 and acceptance criteria in accordance with NC-5320.
The Vogtle specification X4AZ01, "ASME Section III Piping, Field Fabrication and Installation," addresses welding of the penetration sleeve to the flued head (or immediate sleeve for flued heads equipped with inter-mediate sleeves).
Per the specification, these welds are examined in accor-dance with ASME Section III, subsection NE, Class MC, which calls for 100%
radiography.
The fabrication and inspection of flued head penetrations is in accordance with AS'iE Section III,1977 Edition including addenda through Summer 1978.
Installation of flued head penetrations is in accordance with ASME Section III,1977 Edition including addenda through Winter 1977.
The flued head-to-penetration sleeve welds are full penetration, single groove welds.
Details of penetrations (including pipe material and size) are tabulated in the attached drawings. The use of backing 800722oa7g OFFICIAI. COPY j
