PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket Nos. 50-282 and 50-306 In response to IE Bulletin No. 80-08, the following is offered:
A complete review of Unit 1 penetration welds revealed two welds with defi-ciencies. These are butt welds with backing rings which were ultrasonically tested but not radiographed. These welds will be radiographed at the refueling outage scheduled for August 1980.
Review of Unit 2 penetration welds is under way but may not be complete for about three weeks. Review to date of those penetration welds similar to the deficient Unit 1 welds shows that Unit 2 does not have the same deficiencies; and we expect to find no deficiencies in Unit 2.
A further response will be sent by August 10, 1980. The fact that our full response will be delayed was communicated to Mr. Tambling of your office on July 7.
