REFERENCE:
A Schwencer letter to S H Havell, " Staff Position for Inspection and Testing of Remaining Safety Related Structural Concrete Installation," dated May 22, 1980.
Attached are updated FSAR Pages 3.8-24 through 3.8-26a, FSAR Pages 17.1-11 through 17.1-lhb, and Question and Response Pages 17.1-1 through 17.1 h which update Subsection 3.8.1.6.1.2.2, subsection 17.1.1.13, and Questions h21.6 and h217, respectively, in response to the above-referenced letter. The text changes are advance information that vill be included in FSAR Revision 29.
For all remaining safety-related structural concrete, the location of sampling and the frequency of correlation strength testing vill be in accordance with Section 6.11 of ANSI N45.2.5-1978 with the following exception:
When a particular mix of concrete is produced only once a week and the quantity of concrete produced is less than 100 cubic yards, one correlation strength sample vill be taken.
This exception ';o ANSI N45.2.5-1978 is being taken due to the small quantities of safety-related structural concrete remaining to be placed. Small pours of less than 100 cubic yards occurring only one day per week are highly probable.
In accordance sith Table B of ANSI Nh5.2.5-1978, a pour of this quantity would result in only one set of in-process cylinders and consequently more than one set of correlation cylinders is considered unnecessary. This exception was discussed by telephone with Mr R E Lipinski of the Staff on June 6 and c0\\
g June 12, 1980, and it is our understanding that the Staff agrees with this i
position.

'As'of March' 14, 1980, the central batch plant at the Midland jobsite was dis-mantled and replaced by an off-site batch plant. No safety-related structural concrete.vas produced at the off-site batch plant pending the amendment of the construction procedures _ to reflect the above-stated conformance with Section 6.11 of ANSI Nh5 2.5-1978, including the specified exception. Based upon our under-I standing of the Staff's. agreement with the above-stated position, concrete batching from the off-site batch plant will proceed.
