PRD-79/08, PRD-79/18 & PRD-79/19 AECM-80/147 As requested, Mississippi Power & Light Company has reviewed past reports filed under 10CFR50.55(e) since August 1977 to determine if in-formation required under 10CFR21 should also have been included. We have determined that three reports filed under our Architect / Engineer's (Bechtel Power Corporation) scope of work fall in this category.

These items involve parts supplied by Rosemount, Inc., Gould-Brown Boveri, and Westinghouse Electric Company.

Supplemental reports to the ones previously filed under 10CFR50.55(e) for these are attached.

. Investigatiom by Bechtel-Corporation reveal that the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station is the only Bechtel activity which received the defective units.

This cited condition was reported by General Electric as a 10CFR21 deficiency

-by lett'er dated 3/21/80. Rosemount provided the attached listing of other receipients of this equip =ent.(Attachment II) 3.

Description of Deficiency Rosemount Incorporated has identified a problem with their flodel 510DU j,'.

Master and Trip Units. The pr.. a is a cor: mon mode f ailure of two switches (S1 and S2). Switch I determines the trip status light logic and is a nonessential component of the trip unit. Switch S2 determines the trip output logic and is an essential component of the trip ut.it.

Rosemount defines essential as electronic components required to insure a trip output action. The malfunction of the switches appears as an

open circuit. Proper operation of the switch would provide circuit con-tinuity. The result of the open circuit is that the trip output is no

longer functional.

ponents are functioning properly por their design intentions. After final inapection, Rosemount QA vill certify that these components have been repair-ed and retested per specification.
