DAIRYLAND POWER COOPERATIVE LA CROSSE BOILING WATER REACTOR (LACBWR)

PROVISIONAL OPERATING LICENSE NO. DPR-45 IE BULLETIN NO.79-03A - LONGITUDINAL WELD DEFECTS IN ASME SA-312 TYPE 304 STAINLESS STEEL PIPE

Reference:

NRC Letter, Keppler to Linder, dated April 7, 1980.

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This is in response to your letter (Reference 1) which contained IE Bulletin No.79-03A requesting information regarding the use or planned use of ASME SA-312 Type 300 Series fusion welded pipe in LACBWR safety-related systems.

The bulletin reported that center-line lack of weld penetration may exist in any manufacturers' Type 300 Series, austentic stainless steel fusion welded pipe.

The bulletin requested that Dairyland Power Cooperative determine whether SA-312 or A-312, Type 300 Series fusion welded pipe is in use or planned for use in safety-related systems subject to design stresses greater than 85 percent of the Code allowable stresses.

We have determined by a review of our records of installed piping that no A-312 stainless steel fusion welded piping is in use in safety related systems at the LACBWR facility, nor is any of this type planned to be used.

Based on the above findings, no other action is required in response to the subject bulletin. 'JUN -
