-lt The following is a report submitted as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e) concern-h ing a deficiency identified to the Principal Reactor Inspector assigned to Arkansas Nuclear One-Unit 1 by telephone on December 14, 1972, relat-ing to the reactor building service water cooling coils.

The Architect-Enginecr's piping and instrument diagram for the service water system contained a design error in the service water supply lines Icadind from the service water headers to the reactor building coolers.

With this arrangement, the cooling equipment and the corresponding service water supply are in opposite engineered safeguard systems. The piping has u

been installed according to the erroneous piping and instrument diagram.

'Ihis system as. installed violates separation criteria because power supply and water supply for each cooler comes from engineered safeguard channels which are redundant to each other. hhile tF,a deficicacy was not detected during design and construction, preoperatioi.a1 testing would have routinely mado.it known.

l The Architect-Engineer generated a Significant Deficiency Report upon detceting this deficiency. A design evaluation has been conducted and corrective action will be to modify appropriate drawings and change the
