Fish kill on intake screens exceeding 3000 pounds based on 24-hour, sample period.

X Four circulating water pumps were in operation.

Deceription of Occurrence:
During routine ' fish impingement monitoring 1/25/75, using procedure 1607.10, Monitoring Fish Impinged on. ANO-1 Intake Screens, 3331 pounds of fish were collected during a 24-hour sample period beginning,at 8:00 a.m.1/24/75, and ending at 8:00 a.m. 1/25/75. A mixture of gizzard and threadfin shad made up 99.5% of the total weight of fish. Other fish made up 0.5% of the total weight. Threadfin shad made up 96%.of the total number of shad.
Intake water temperature at 8:00 a.m. 1/25/75 was 42*F and ambient air temperature was 41*F.

X The apparent causewas due to a natural die off of threcdfin shad during the winter season.

The only noticeable Environmental Impact was the removal of the above mentioned fish from the lake. The fish that were collected were dis-posed of through land fill operation. The fish that were not collected were disposed of through the trash disposal system.

- 10. Corrective Action:
Long term studies are in progress to determine the effects of plant operation on the a.luatic ecosystems of the Dardanelle Rescrvoir. Data from this report and other data obtained is fed back into these studies to determine what changes might be made to the studies in order to ensure.that adequate data is obtained for evaluating plant impact.

Review by Arkansas Power 6 Light Company and its consultants of the results of these studies will determine what corrective action might be taken to reduce plant effects on the Reservoir.
