Dear Mr. Stolz:

The following information for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 1 is being presented in response to your Licensing Project Manager's oral request related to my request, dated June 24, 1977 (Serial No. 308), for a change to the facility Technical Specifications.

The allowable value for channel calibration of greater than or equal to 18.87" of water instead of the greater than or equal to 20" of water is based on an allowance of 1.13" for transmitter drift over an 18-month period as determined by qualification testing of the steam generator level transmitters.

The change in frequency of channel calibration to once every 18 months (R) instead of once every 92 days (Q) is based on recommendations contained in IEEE 279-1971.

This submittal should allow immediate completion of your action on this matter.
