Docket No. 50-3k6 Nuclear Fuel Densification Effects
Dear Mr. Giambusso:
Cur letter of Dece=ber 19, 1972, in respense to your..etter of November 20, 1972, re.;nrung the effects of nuclear fuel densificatica on the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station requested an extension date to February 20, 1973, for our detai2 ed reply.
As part of the overall p p.c related to investigating the fuel densifi-cation proble= and how it might, affect Davis-2 esse, Sabcock & Wilecx, the Davis-Besse nuclear steam supply syste= and initial fuel lead supplier, sub=itted to AIC Reacter Projects its proprietary Topical Repcrt 3AW-1005h,
" Fuel Densification Repcrt," en January h, 1973, and its non-preprietary version, Topical Report BAW-10055, " Fuel Densification Repert," on Febru-ary 13, 1973. These generic reports relate to metheds to be employed for evaluating fuel densification effects in 3 & W reactor syste=s.
It is cur understanding that these reports are presently being revieved by the AEC staff with respect to 3 & W's lead plant.
Since the results of this AEC review vill be relevant to the Davis-Besse aralysis of fuel densification effects, ve plan to sub=it s-a y results for Davis-Eesse after the review of the 3 & W generic reports is available and within sufficient time for Directorate of Licensing staff to complete their safety evaluation for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Pcver Statien en a timely basis.
We hope, still, that this approach is cc=patible with your schedule.
Yours very truly, 2
