Dockee No. 346-PCP Harold R. Decton, Assistant Director for Site Safety, L THRU: Jacob Kastner, Chief, Radiological Assessment 3 ranch, L TRIP REPORT - VISIT TO DAVIS BESSE PLANT (PCP) - SITE SAFETY PREVIEW A Davis-Besse site visit was made on June 19, 1973. The purpose of the visit was to dircuss the Davis Besse Health Physics program and the draft Q, questions, to tour plant facilities that will contributa most significantly to annual man-rem doses, Sai to review the applicants planned counter-measures. I met with Dave Briden (Chemist and Health Physicist) and Dick Crouse (Toledo Zdison Chief Chemical Engineer and backup for Briden). We were later joined by Jack Sconi (Nuclear Engineer) and Lowell Roe (Project Coordina:or - Chief M.E.)
The discussions that followed concerned the following topics:
1.
?lant managements concern and support for Health Physics training and operating program.
2.
The scope o2 the :iealth Physics program relevant to equipment, procedures and facilities.
3.
Draft Q questions.
g 4.
Management of the Health Physics and Radiochemistry programs.
In my tour of the plant I viewed, among other things, the Health ?hysics facilities including their radiochemistry lab, counting room and calibra-tion room. I was particularly interested in tre ventilation system with respect to the location of the vent atmospheric contamination monitors.
However the ventilation system has only been partially installed. Access control design methods to preclude spread of potential contamination were also observed and discussed with Briden, and Ceause.
Since the state of construction is somewhat greater than 507. complete, a visit during a later stage of construction may further enhance the objectives of our review of site safety.
