Arkansas Nuclear One - Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-313 and 50-368 License Nos. DPR-51 and NPF-6 Temporary Exemption of Shcwer Facility at ECC (File:

1510.4)

Gentlemen:

The following is provided to you to document a telephone conversation between your Mr. Bill Axelson, the Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO) Emergency Plan Review Team leader, and our Mr. Dale James.

In this subject conversation, Mr. James requested NE approval for a temporary exemption to having a shower facility available in the Emer-gency Control Center (ECC), as is presently comitted to in Section 4.3.1.1-C of the existing AN0 Emergency Plan.

This request was prompted due to present construction plans which call for the replacement of the existing ECC building with a new more complete stru:ture.

During this construction period, mobile trailers will be utilized to serve the func-tion of the ECC.

The holding tank which was used in the existing struc-ture for contaminated shower water storage will be relocated such that upon completion of the new structure it can once again be utilized for this purpose.

As has been the case in the past, the existing decortamination showers at the site will be avaliable for personnel decontamination.

Also, if a situation should develop in which a decontaminatien shower offsite would be required, a suitable shower could be constructed in a relatively short period of time (within'24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
),

.1 Mr. Brian R. Grimes June 27, 1980 Mr. Axelson found this proposed exemption acceptable and asked that we submit this information to you in writing.

Therefore, until the completion early next year of the new building for the ECC, no shower facility will be available at that location.
