Dear Senator. Kennedy:
I am writing in response to your letter of April 28, 1980 in which you encouraged a meeting with the Vermont Yankee Decommissioning Alliance (VYDA).
On April 29, 1980, NRC officials familiar with Vermont Yankee met with representatives of VfDA for about three hours. The officials received petitions from VYDA requesting immediate shutdown of the Vermont Yankee plant. They also discussed with VYDA representatives safety issues of concern to VYDA (emergency evacuation plans, funding for epidemiological studies, safety factors for the Vermont Yankee containment, waste stcrage, J
and Vermont Yankee decommissioning).
We appreciate the opportunity to have heard the views expressed by VYDA, and I assure you that their views will be given appropriate consideration.
