SUBJECT:

SUINARY OF MAY 19, 1980 MEETIllG-ON CORE PROTECTION CALCULATTON SYSTEM (CPCS) SOFTWARE On May 19, 1980 representatives of AP?.L and Combustion Engineering, Inc. met with the ilRC staff and an flRC consultant in Cethesda, Maryland. Attendees are listed in Enclosure 1.

The licensee had proposed to make changes in the CPCS software as set forth in the AP&L letters of January 31, 1980 and i'ay G,1980. The changes are generally intended to provide additional diagnostic capability.and to address the causes of spurious trips of the reactor protection system.

The slides used in the licensee's presentation are enclosed. The neeting concluded with the staff stating that the six issues identified in Enclosure 2 should be considered further by the staff prior to being implemented in the plant's software. Arranaements were made to have this done as soon as practical and to advise the licensee of the results.
