Dear Sir:
Subject:
Maine Yankee Reportable Occurrence #80-15/01T-0 Pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specifications 5.9.1.6.h, the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company hereby submits the following report.
While performing an engineering review relative to an anticipated precautionary programmed insertion of CEA's, it was disco <ered that the analysis performed for Cycle 5 did not consider the four-step, long-term insertion currently allowed by technical specifications. Programmed insertion of the CEA's could, if implemented, have allowed reactor operation in a manner which is less conservative than that assumed in the analysis. In order to allow this programmed CEA insert 13n, it will be necessary to perform additional analysis and may additionally require submittal of a technical specification change.
The plant was at full power operation at the time this omission was discovered and no immediate corrective action was necessary. At no time during Cycle 5 operation has Maine Yankee operated in a less conservative manner relative to long-term CEA insertion or to the existing safety analysis. Modifications necessary to correct this omission will be implemented prior to the initiation of any programmed CEA insertion.
Very truly yours, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY Edwin C. Wood 00)
