Dear Mr. Madsen:

This letter is in response to the Notice of Violation received as a result of inspections conducted at this facility during the period April 1 to April 30, 1980.

1.

The corrective steps taken to correct the infraction are as follows:

a)

The operations order addressing the maintenance of proper diesel-generator day tank level was reemphasized to all equipment operators, b)

The equipment operators were also trained in an alternate method of filling the day tanks, using the auxiliary boiler feed pumps to allow " topping off" the tanks, if the tank level switch controlling the normal fill pumps terminates fill before the 500 gallon level is reached.

c)

The log sheet has been changed to include a check of the day tank level on every inspection round.

Since the implementation of these steps the tank levels have been maintained above the 500 gallon level.

2.

Planned corrective actions include the following:

a)

Change Notice No. 1212 was submitted to correct the tendency of the normal fill pumps to shut of f before the tanks reached the 500 gallon level. The proper switch setting was verified by test no. 140, run on 3/24/80.
