Re:

Virginia Electric and Power Company (North Anna Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2)

Docket Nos. 50-338 OL and 50-339 OL

Dear Mr. Christman:

The Appeal Board has asked me to acknowledge its receipt of your June 20, 1980 letter with respect to the turbine mis-sile issue.

Among other things, that letter informed the Board that it now appears that the Westinghouse analyses will not be available until October and that any further evidentiary hearing on the issue therefore could not take place before early 1981.

In light of the applicant's outstanding commitment to have the Uni; 1 turbine inspected for disk cracking during the next refueling shutdown scheduled for this December, the delay in the completion of the Westinghouse analyses is not a matter of serious concern to the Board.

Should there be any proposed postponement of that inspection beyond December, the Board must, of course, be so notified promptly.

See ALAB-589, 11 NRC at fn. 6 (April 7,1980).

Such notification is to in-clude a statement of the then total number of hours of Unit 1 operation, as well as an estimate of the number of hours that that unit will have been in operation by the new date selected for the turbine inspection.

1 Sincerely,

~
