/Md MP/tc NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR LAFEGUARDS Notice of Proposed Meetings In order to provide advance information regarding proposed meetings of the ACRS Subcommittees and Working Groups, and of the full Committee, the following preliminary schedule reflects the current situation, taking into account additional meetings which have been scheduled and meetings which have been postponed or cancelled since the last list of proposed meetings published April 25,1980 (45 FR 25027).

These meetings which are iefinitely sched" led have had, or will have, an individual notice published in the Federal Register approximately 15 days (or mere) prior to the meeting.

Those Subcommittee and Working Group meetings for which it is anticipated that there will be a portion or all of the meeting open to the public are indicated by an asterisk (*).

It is expected that the sessions of the full-Committee meeting designated by an asterisk (*) will be open in whole or in part to the public. ACRS full Committee meetings begin at 8:30 a.m. and Subcommittee and Working Group meetings usually begin at 8:30 a.m.

The exact time when items _ listed on the agenda will be discussed during full Committee meetings and when Subcommittee and Working Group meetings will start will be published prior to ech meeting.

ACRS SUBCOMMITTEE MEETINGS

  • Reactor Operations, May 20, 1980, Washington, DC. The Subcommittee will review NRC research programs in the area of operational safety, including fire protection, noise diagnostics, and man-machine interfaces for the ACRS annual reports to NRC and Congress.

  • Site Evaluation / Reactor Radiolocical Effects, May 21-22, 1980, Washington, DC.

The Subcommittee will review pertinent portions of the NRC research program for the ACRS annual reports to NRC and Congress.

  • Extreme External Phenomena, May 28-29, 1980, Les Angeles, CA.

Gescheduled to June 4, Washington, DC.

The Subcommittee will continue its review of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) application for a license to operate Units 1 and 2.

Washington, DC. The Subcommittee will review a proposed Regulatory Guide regardir.g onsite meteorological programs, and a proposed revision to 10 CFR. Part 55 on operators' licenses.

The Subcommittee will review recommendations and implementations resulting from Task Action Plan A-40, " Seismic Design Criteria--

  • Imoroved Safety Systems, June 25, 1980, Washington, DC. The Subcommittee will review pertinent portions of the NRC and Department of Energy (DOE) research programs for the ACRS annual reports to NRC and Congress.

' Safeguards and Security, June 26, 1980, Washington, DC. The Subcommittee will review pertinent portions of the NRC research program for the ACRS annual reports to NRC and Congress, and will be briefed by RES on recently completed NRC studies relating to reactor plant design to reduce vulnerability to sabotage, and code development related to spent fuel storage pool consequence estimates from sabotage.

A closed session is planned regarding recent events relating to plant security.

  • Reliabilitv and Probabilistic Assessment, July 1, Les Angeles, CA.

The Subcom-mittee will continue its evaluation of the need to develop quantitative safety scals for nuclear power plants and consideration of the actual form these goals may take and what they should accomplish.

The Subecmmittee may also discuss some general items related to the NRC Probabilistic Analysis Staff's ongoing programs and budget.

  • Class 9 Accidents, July 2,1980, Los Angeles, CA.

The Subcommittee will continue its review of the role Class 9 Accidents should take in the licensing process.

The Subcommittee will continue its review of pertinent portions of the NRC research program for the ACRS annual reports to NRC and Congress.

  • Reculatory Activities, July 9 and August 6,1980 (both dates tentative), Washing-ton, DC. The Subcommittee will review regulatory guides and revisions to existing regulatory guides; also, it may discuss pertinent activities which affect the current licensing process and/or reactor operation.
