50-328 Enclosed for your review are 20 copies of a revised response to question 12.16 for the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SNP). The original response has been revised to include a description of the administrative pracedures in effect at SNP that control access to areas adjacent to the fuel transfer tube. These areas can experience high radiation lesals during fuel handling operations. The revised response will be incorporated into the SNP Final ~ Safety Analysis Report with the next amendment.

' Accessible areas near the fuel transfer tube are protected with permanent shielding to limit dose rete to 5 mrem /hr or.less during fuel transfer.

shielding may allow dose rates as high as 210 mren/hr during fuel transfer.

-Plant parsonnel are prohibited from entering the areas adjacent to the fuel transfer tube during normal fuel handling operations by an administrative j

Plant: Fuel Handling' Instructions.

This area is shown on figure 12.19 and the shielding is described in l

section 12.1.2.-

The fuel transfer tube shielding at Sequoyah is similar to that.at Watts Ear Nuclear Plant. -(See Watts Bar FSAR Figure 12.3-12.)
