He has not been personelly involved in the TMI response, but his people have been. There was no activity by the Small Business Administration until the 27th of April, when the Administrator approved a request from Governor Thornburgh to declare the five county areas, including Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, LebanonandYorkCounties,aneconomgdiglocationarea.
4 Following the declaration, SBA pstiablished special offices in Harrisburg, Lancaster, York, and Middletown to handle claims from local businesses.
The office in Middletown has been closed, but the others will remain open until January, 1980, corresponding to the standard 8-month duration of the declaration. To date, 465 businesses have been interviewed.
49 inn applications have been received totalling $2.5 million.
10 of these requests totalling 5723,000 have been approved.
16 requests totalling $622,000 have been rejected.
22 requests are stilI being processed.
The fraction of appli-cations which is being rejected is higher than normal. Mr. Colgan suggested that some businesses which were in difficulty before the TMI incident may have hoped to take advantage of the event.
