Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit I (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 ISI/QA Surveillances In response to the NRC Investigation Report 50-289/79-10 Met-Ed committed to various corrective steps in order to improve the effectiveness of the ISI and Quality Assurance Programs as described in our letter of October 4, 1979 (GQL1222). All of the corrective steps listed in Reference 2 have been completed except not all of the ISI/NDE procedures have been reviewed and revised.
Reference 2 noted that these procedure reviews would be completed prior to the expiration of the second forty (40) month period. Only those procedures that were required for the 1979 ISI Re-examination and the 1980 ISI Examinations were reviewed and revised.
In our letter of February 20, 1980 (TLLO66) we committed to completing all of the examinations required by the 1979 and 1980 schedules by Idarch 21, 1980. Due to a number of problems that surfaced during the examination and which have
..cn identified in the NRC Inspection Report 50-289/80-06, the 1979/1980 examinations will not be considered completed until all of the items of concern which specifically relate to the examinations can be resolved.
Thus the NIS-1 report will not be issued until after the examinations have been considered complete in accordance with the requirements of ASME Section XI with the exceptions noted in Amendment No. 54 to the Unit-I Technical Specifications.
