R. S. Roberts FROM:
W. L. Russell
SUBJECT:
Supertiger Overpack, MOD 6400 I have inspected the subject overpack as you requested and find it to be a sound, usable, container.
All visible welds appear sound.
There is no evident deformation of exterior or interior shell to indicate an accident or misuse.
All the dimensions, inside and outside, are still within the tolerance stated on the original drawings.
Door hinges show no deformation or other evidence of undue strain and
- i hinge pins look good.
Top and bottom dowel pins (on the door) show very little wear.
I recorrmend replacement of the outside door gasket - it is showing some effects of age. With that, I have no question that this overpack is suitable for transporting TYPE B quantities of radioactive wastes.
In addition, I would remove surface dirt, prime and paint interior and exterior surfaces just to give it that " cared-for" look.
