SUBJECT:

REVISION TO NOTIFICATION PROCEDURES FOR TMI WASTE SHIPMENTS Each of the State officials who have been receiving advaoce notification on TNI waste shipments, with the exception of Washington and South Carolina, have been notified both by phone and by letter that OSP will no longer be giving them advance notification on each shipment.

If the State officials want advance notification on each radwaste shipment leaving THI, an official from Met Ed will call then.

We have ggreed, however, to continue to notify Congressional Affairs, Public Affairs, the NRC Regional Officef where the burial site is located, and the State Liaison Officer and radiation control program director or his designee in the receiving State.

(Only RCP in South Casolina)

Prior to each shipment of radwaste leaving THI, John Collins or his representative will continue to pmvide SP with the necessary information on each shipment.

If the call comes in during off-duty hours, the OSP duty officer should call l

the appropriate NRC officials and radiation health program director for the receiving State. The SLO can be notified the next day.

Anyone making official calls during off-duty hours should make their calls throughtheNRCoperator(492-7000) to avoid av long distance telephone esponse.
