,, u. v Nuclear Reactor Regulation Office Harold R. Denton, Director 1717 H. Street N.W.

Washington, D.C.

20555 Gentlemen:

I support the nuclear power plants and believe that further delay in construction of more plants severely jeopardizes the well being of every American.

We are all aware of the critical situation with respect to foreign oil and our dependence upon it.

Each reactor in operation could displace 10 million barrela of oil each year which would ofEsot the shortages due to the Iranian shu t-off.

Each week tha t one of these reactors is not in operation, consumers ultimately will have to pay $2 million in interest charges alone. Replacement energy costs will be between $2 million and $6 million a week depending on whether it comes from coal, oil, or a corabination of those two note expensive genera ting fuels.

Looking at it another way, each " frozen" rcactor deprives the nation of enough energy to pcuer 300,000 automobiles.

I sincerely hope that you will reconsider your decision and will issue the construction permits for the seven nuclear power plants so that commercial o;>erations n:ay begin.

Yours very truly, N8M C. N. Stovall CNS:JH:1c cc: President Carter
