Dear Mr. Reid:
The joint meeting between B&W and the utilities who o.vn B&W nuclear steam supply systems discussed in my letter of July 8,1976 took place on July 20, 1976 and an overall program for the evaluation of the adequacy of the pressure vessels support system has been agreed upon.
B&W is currently preparing a more detailed proposal to these utilities which should be available within the next two to three weeks. At that time these utilities and B&W would like to schedule a meeting with the NRC staff to discuss our proposed program before we commit to significant expenditures.
Based on the status of the preliminary program that was presented to the utilities at the July 20, 1976 meeting, I would anticipate that the group would be ready to discuss this matter with you by approximately Septemt.er 1,1976. Assuming this approach meets with your approval, we will be in touch with you relative to this meeting as soon as B&W has submitted their detailed proposal.
