Re: Operating License DPR-54 g
"i Docket No. 50-312 Reportable Occurrence 77-4
Dear Mr. Engelken:
i In accordance with Technical Specifications for Rancho Seco Nuclear
(
Generating Station, Section 6.9.1 and Regulatory Guide 1.16, Revision 4,
' 'j Section C.2.b.2, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District is hereby reporting the following Reportable Occurrence as RO 77-4.
On '.pril 1, 1977, the Auxiliary Building stack radiation monitor (particulate) was taken out of service at 1014 hours0.0117 days
0.282 hours
0.00168 weeks
3.85827e-4 months
for repair. Technical ~
Specifications Appendix B, Section 2.6.4.B, requires that when this monitqr:
is removed from service, daily grab samples must be taken and analyzed for gross radioactivity. Grab sampling was not performed for the period the monitor was out of service, which lasted until 1600 on April 4,1977.
The Control Room was informed of the planned repair work and logged the monitor out-of-service on Friday, April 1, but no mention of the monitor's status was made in the log at subsequent shift changes. No radiation / chemistry personnel were contacted to take the required samples over the weekend period and that omission was not ruted until the monitor was returned to service the following Monday.
There was no abnormal release of radioactivity during the period d
that this r taitor was inoperable. The Auxiliary Building stack gas radiation monitor was operable throughout the repair except for a 39-minute period on April 4.
No high activity levels were detected on that monitor, no waste gas decay tanks were released and no significant releases of airborne activity j
occurred which would have been released up the Auxiliary 'iilding stack.
