Docket No. 50-312 Unusual Event 75-6

Dear Sir:

As defined by Technical Specifications " Appendix B",

Section 2.6.2.C, we are reporting the following Unusual Event as UE 75-6.

On May 5, May 16, May 23, and May 26, it has been noted that the conductivity of the effluent waste water exceeded that

\\

associated with a total dissolved solids level of 850 mg/1, the d

limit set in Technical Specifications " Appendix B", Section 2.3.A.

e These events were very brief spikes which appeared as the controlled dU.ution for a retention basin release was being established. On May 27 the limit was again exceeded; however, on this occasion the dissolved solids level remained at approximately 1600 mg/l for fifteen minutes, and no retention basin release was noted.

It has been found that the conductivity sensing system

~

overreacts somewhat to conductivity changes, and upon releasing the retention basin and adjusting the dilution flow the meter records a spike. To correct this the system will be desensitized, so as not to record an invalid high conductivity level. There is nc apparent reason for the 15-minute indication. Records show no release which would give such a reading at that time, the instrumentation has been checked and is operating properly, and no calibration checks were being performed en the instrument at that time.
