ix-Docket No. 1 - M V

Dear Mr. Price.

A letter from Dr. Peter A. Morris, dated June 17, 1970, requested additional information to support our exemption request for the Davis-Besse Station to enable you to ec=plete your review. We believe the folleving information vill ec=pletely answer all questions.

The site exploration program to verify the extent of predicted bedrock solution activity including treatment procedures for any solution activity found, was included in Amend ent No. T to the PSAR submitted on July 1,1970. This program was discussed with your staff on June 25,1970, and it is our understanding that this program, as sub-mitted, satisfies all requirements.

In addition, rock excavation required for building structures is approximately 80% ccmplete, 70% of the additicnal exploratory borings have been ec=pleted, and all other portions of the verification progra are well underway with no indication of significant solution activity having been found.

The analysis of the probable naximum water level at the Davis-Besse site resulting from a probable maxi =um meteorological event given in Dr. Morris ' letter of June 3,1970, has been completed and the results of this analysis are contained in our letter of July 2h,1970.

Seismic related considerations which were discussed at the ACE 3 sub-cos=ittee meeting on May 26, 1970 have been included in Amendment No':.

5 and 6 to the PSAR and it is cur understanding that there are nov nc unresolved ite=s in this area.

Detailed quality assurance procedures have been promulgated to implement the quality assurance program ou' lined in Appendix 13 of th? PSAR.

These procedures will be in effect for work being done under the exemption.

" July 24, 1970 Docket No. 5G-346 The CAPC0 Group forecast December peak hour lot.d in 1974 is 10,980 W while the net Group capability vill be 13,238 W including the Davis-3 esse unit. This provides a margin of 20.6% capability over the peak load while without the Davis-Besse unit, this margin vould be reduced to 12.67. which is below that censidered acceptable to assure reliable service to the customers.

The environmental infor=ation requested in Dr. Morris' lettet of April 24, 1970, will be submitted about August 3,1970.

We believe the above infor=ation completely ansvers all outstanding items pertaining to our request for an exemption and will permit you to complete your review.

Yours very truly,
