Dear Mr. York:

Subject:

Appointment of Regional State Liaison Officer William B. Menczer has been appointed as the Regional State Liaison Officer for Region III of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. His res-ponsibilities include the coordination of communications between the NRC and state and local governments in activities of mutual interest in the regulation of NRC licensed nuclear materials and facilities.

Mr. Menczer will keep you informed of incidents, the status of inspec-tion and enforcement activities, and other matters of significance in your state.

As interest and involvement by state and local governments in nuclear matters has greatly increased over the years, the NRC recognized the need for full time' personnel to coordinate such involvement. Accordingly, a Regional State Liaison Officer has been assigned to each of the five (5)

NRC Regions.

Over the next few months, Mr. Menczer will arrange to meet with you and with other government representatives in your state to discuss areas of mutual interest and to identify areas where the NRC may be of assistance -

to you. He may be reached by telephone on (312) 932-2666.
