Attention: Mr. James Miller Chief of Standardization and Special Projects Branch l

Gentlemen: Re: Topical Report No. YORK 80-67459 Submitted March 31, 1980 On March 31, 1980, Topical Report No. YORK 80-67459, was submitted to Mr. R. L. Baer. This report documents that the York Model 299 Type 3G Demister$ moiEture separator meets all the specifications of l NRC and ANSI /ASME for protection of high efficiency particulate air  ;

(HEPA) filters in the air cleaning systems of pressurized water l nuclear power plants. l We have been advised by your Mr. Baer that our topical report contains all the necessary data and has been distributed to the proper personnel for review. He has advised that the priority for formal approval of the topical report would be dependent upon when the moisture separators were required for installation.

We have been advised by our customer (CTI Nuclear Division of McDowell-Wellman Company) that the moisture separators will be used in the Tennessee Valley Authority Yellow Creek Plant, which is licensed and currently under construction, and that the moisture separators are required by August 22, 1980, to avoid construction delays. Since this type of moisture separator has a normal lead time of 12-14 weeks, it is imperative that NRC approval of the referenced topical report be accomplished as soon as possible so that fabrication of the required moisture separators can be started.

We will be most grateful for your assistance in expediting the approval of the York Model 299 Type 3G moisture separator as described in our topical report. Please call if you need any additional information.

Very truly yours, OTTO H. YCRK COMPANY , INC.
