Dear Ms Epstein:
This is in response to your letter of November 17, 1987,'which a:ks whether it is acceptable to use magnetic media for permanent'rcorage of quility records. You indicate the magnetic media would be rctrievable and maintained according to temperature, humidity, stacking, and Other storage guidelines.
The NRC does not object to the use of magnetic media for storage of cuality assurance (QA) records provided that these records can be recalled lagibly during the required record retention period and that they represent the records as they are completed,. That is, letters, travelers, drawings, and specifications must include all pertinent stamps, initials and signatures.
