May 6, 1980 RBG - 7616 File No. 09.5 Mr. Karl V. Seyfrit, Director U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Cc==ission, Region IV Office of Inspection & Enforce =ent 611 Ryan Plaza Drive Suite 1000 Arlington, TX 76011

Dear Mr. Seyfrit:

River Bend Station - Unit 1 Docket No. 50 kS8 As requested in your letter of December 13, 1979, enclosed are copies of Pittsburgh Testing Laboratory (PTL) Report nu=bers 800985 and 800986 for fine and coarse aggregates respectively. The four re-ports snow the six month results of the ASTM C227 mortar bar test being performed using low alkali job cement and high alkali cement.

Ths six month results are +0.02 and +0.02 for fine and coarse aggregates respectively for job cement (lov alkali); and +0.03 and +0.02 for fine and coarse aggregates respectively for high alkali cement.

All are well within the acceptance limits of +0.05 for 3 month and +0.10 for 6 month test durations.

At this time we request year evaluation (as per your letter of December 13,1979) of our present alkali testing frequency (one test for each 500 tons of cement) in order that we might revert to the originally specified frequency (once for each 1200 tons).

Sincerely yours,

. G. Weigand vice President Operations & Technical Systems JGW/WJR/=b Enclosures 8006180329 A
