SUPPLEMENTAL INTERROGATORIES u

In a filing dated April 26, 1980, Chesapeake Energy Alliance

("CEA") served three " supplementary" interrogatories on Licensee.

Without commenting on whether the " supplementary" interrogatories were timely or constitute appropriate follow-on discovery, Licen-see provides the following response:

Interrogatory No. 5-13 Describe the extent of the outage of EPICOR II, and identify

.and describe the nature of the "several modifications".

RESPONSE

l EPICOR II commenced a scheduled and planned outage on March I 17, 1989 for the following modifications:

1. Improve the demineralizer liner water control system. ,

i

2. Improve shielding provisions for reduced per-sonnel exposure.
3. Increase tank holding capacity by making tank overflow modifications.

800 618 0 EIT G .-

4. Optimize laydown provisions for system operation and maintenance. -
5. Augment process monitoring capability.

Scheduled modifications were completed on April 2, 1980.

The system was returned to operational status on April 7, 1980, following additional operator qualification and certification.

Interrogatory No. 5-14 Reconcile the information provided in the TMI-2 Weekly Status Report with Licensee's earlier response to CEA Interrogatory 5-9, a response that appears to be in direct conflict with that infor-mation.

RESPONSE

There exists no conflict between the referenced NRC document and Licensee's respanse to Interrogatory No. 5-9. A scheduled and planned outage like that described in Licensee's response to Inter-rogatory No. 5-13 was anticipated.

In+ trogatory No. 5-15 Identify any and all other ways in which EPICOR-II has not functioned as originally projected, and that were not reported by. Licensee in its response to CEA's Interrogatory 5-9.

RESPONSE

There are no significant problems with EPICOR-II. The system has functioned as expected.

Respectfully submitted, SHAW, PITT, POTTS & TROWBRIDGE l
