Attention: air. R. W. Rawl F

Gentlemen;

/,

g Per our telephone conversation of 4-16-80., you indicated out Certificate of Competent Authority numbers 9011, and 5706 will be upgraded to the 1973 I AEA regulations. It was indicated the new certificate will require the source capsule to have a leak rate less than 10 5A cc/sec.

It was also indicated ANSI, N542, A2.2.1, and A2.2.3 tests are sensitive enough to test the capsules to this leak rate.

Accordingly enclosed are the test results which were run on two cobalt source capsules which I am forwarding for your records.

Sincerely, V

C. A. Peng -

i Two (2) source capsules were subjected to the test parameters setforth in American fiational Standard f1542, Appendix A, Section A2.2.1 Vacuum Bubble Test.

These sources are the design of Advanced Medical Systems, Inc.,

and Picker Corporation and were fabricated by Advanced Medical Systems, Inc.

The Vacuum Bubble Test was performed in a Tenney Eng. temperature / altitude chamber Model 85T-85 utilizing de-ionized water as the leak test fluid.

With a vacuum applied, the samples were observed for a period of two (2) minutes.

lio bubbles were observed and the sample sources are considered to be leak free.

All samples were returned to Advanced Medical Systems, Inc.

AilSI fl542, A2.2.3 Two (2) source capsules were subjected to the test parameters setforth in American Standard fl542, Appendix A, Section A2.2.3 Helium Pressurization Bubble Test.

These sources are the design of Advanced Medical Systems, Inc. and Picker Corporation and were fabricated by Advanced Medical Systems, Inc.

The Helium Pressurization Bubble Test was performed in a pressure vessel, 2-1/2" dia. x 14" long, manufactured by Herron Testing Labora tories, Inc.

and employing a U.S. Solfrunt pressure gauge, 0-600 PSI.

De-ionized water was used as the leak test fluid.

Af ter pressurization the samples were submerged in the test fluid and observed for bubbles for a period of two (2) minutes.

flo bubbles were observed and the sample sources are considered to be leak free.
