Dear Mr. Ahearne:

I was referred to you by the office of Dr. John Kemeny when I wrote to him concerning the recent committee investigating the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant failure.

We in human factors and sociatechnical systems have for years been critical of what we consider to be deficiencies in design, operations, safety, and control of side effects of large, complex systems.

We have long considered such perspectives as that r.cpresented by the Rasmussen Report as being overly sanguine. Now after the Con Edison failure in New York in July,1977 and Three Mile Island, our fears appear to be vindicated.

My colleagues and I offer our services in either a funded research or consulting capacity.

Could you let us know if and how we can now be of help and to whom we should direct further inquiries and send statements of interest and capabilities and research proposals?

Thank you for your advice and direction.

Sincerely, O
