Immediate Report of Reportable Occurrence This letter is a followup to a report made by Mr. W. S. Orser, Manager of Operations and Maintenance, to Mr. M. H. Malmros, NRC Resident. Inspector, at 7:30 a.m., Friday, April 25, 1980 concerning a situation where abnormal degradation was discovered in the fuel cladding in one fuel pin in a fuel assembly. The damaged fuel pin was discovered during a preplanned fuel inspection program to locate a suspected leaking fuel assembly. All of the similarly configured and similarly located fuel assemblies have been in- '

spected and no other clad failure was noted. The total clad failure is limited to a single fuel pin in a single fuel assembly.

This occurrence will be reported to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a Licensee Event Report in accordance with our established Technical Speci-fications.
