SUBJECT:

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR THE B0KUM RESOURCES CORPORATION MARQUEZ MILL FACILITY The subject evaluation report was transmitted to the Environmental Improvement Division (EID), State of New Mexico, on February 4,1980. The report was prepared in response to EID's request for technical assistance in connection with the licensing of the proposed Marquez Mill Facility.

The document presents the conclusions and bases for the NRC staff's review and environmental assessment of the proposed facility. The major components of discussion are as follows:

(1) summary and recommended licensing conditions, (2) description of the site environment and the proposed facility operation, (3) evaluation of the proposed design in comparison with NRC's performance objectives for tailings management, (4) radiological assessment for estimating the facility's compliance with 10 CFR Part 20 and 40 CFR Part 190 dose regula-tions, and (5) review of the hydrologic aspects of operational stability of the proposed tailings management system.

The technical review, evaluation, and report preparation of the proposed facility was performed by the following individuals:
