MAR 3 1980 Docket No. 50-358 APPLICANT:
Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company FACILITY:
Zimmer Nuclear Power Station
SUBJECT:
MEETING ON EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION - FEBRUARY 21, 1980, BETHESDA, MARYLAND BACKGROUND:
The staff's requirement for the seismic and other dynamic qualification of equipment was set forth in a letter, dated February 23, 1979, to the utilities.
On August 27, 1979, Cincinnati Gas & Electric met with the staff to outline its program for reassessing and requalifying, if necessary, the NSSS equipment in the Zimmer Nuclear Power Station. At that time, CG&E comitted to keep the st&ff up to date on the progress it was making in the execution of its requali-fication program. This meeting was for that purpose; the reassessment effort being about 80% complete. The visual presentation status report along with the attendance list for the meeting are enclosed.
SUMMARY
CG&E and its contractor NUTECH made a fonnal presentation on the NUTECH work which covered equipment under review mechanica! 2nd electrical equipment status and requalification efforts.
Schedules for key milestones and completion were also presented. According to the schedule, CG&E would be prepared for an NRC audit of qualified items in June of 1980. Some equipment requalification would go beyond the June date because of some anticipated long lead time problems that can be expected because of the vintage of the plant and the advanced stage of construction.
The staff briefed the applicant on its manpower situation and difficulties that have been encountered in acquiring contracted assistance.
It may be eight to nine months before the staff can receive, evaluate requests for proposals and finally get someone on board to assist in the review and audit.
Once started, the review and audit is estimated to be a four man-month effort to complete.
