Dear Sir:
Please find enclosed information' pertaining to nine ground-water observa-tion wells (GM38-GM46) installed by the U.S. Geological Survey in the vicinity of Cowles Bog, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore during February 1980. The wells consist of 2" diameter pipe with a 2" diameter, 3-fcot long, 10-slot drive point at the bottom. The wells were hand-driven through the organic mat and ' underlying muck into the top three feet of sand.beneath the muck. After installation, the elevation of the top of the casing of each well was established by leveling, and azimuth and stadia were: recorded to establish the location of each well.
Information enclosed pertaining - to these. nine wells are: a well log'of each of the nine: wells, a map showing the location of GM38 - GM46' (also included are all the' other GM series wells west of Mineral Springs Road), and a table of data' entitled, " Great Marsh /Cowles' Bog Well Data."
Please note that at. the time GM38 - GM46 were leveled, more accurate
- locations - for. GM4B and GM4C were established as shown on the well-location map, and new measuring point elevations for GM4B and GM4C were established as indicated on the table.of Great Marsh /Cowles Bog well' data. 'Also in-cluded on the table of Great Marsh /Cowles Bog well data are February 1980.
water levels-for CM1, GM2, GM3,' GM4A,' GM4B, GM4C, and GMS. ' Because' GM4B and GM4C were. frozen, water levels were estimated based on an observed water level rise of~0.84;ft in well 25 from November 5,1979-to February J
28,- 1980~.
This rise'was'added.to the water levels in GM4B and GM4C-

. measured on November 5, 1979 to obtain an estimate of the water levels-for those two wells for February 1980.
