Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416/417 File 0272/1J525/15526 PRD-80/01, Status Report CR2940 Handswitch Failure AECM-80/49 On January 25, 1980, Mississippi Power & Light Company notified Mr. M. J. Gouge of your office of a potentially reportable defic'oney at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. construction site. The deficiency concerns t'.e failure of handswitch CR2940-US203E supplied by General Electric. The preliminary investigation reveals that during testing the switch failed to spring return ta neutral position. The switch in quest. ion was associated with non-safety related equipment.
We are currently coordinating investigations with Bechtel and General Electric as to the nature of this failure, the extent of use of this type switch at Grand Gulf Nelear Station, safety implications, if any, and re-quired corrective action.
We expect to provide a determination on the reportability of this issue no later than April 15, 1980.
