Dear Mr. Grier:

The reference letters provided interim responses to IE Bulletin 79-03A concerning the use or potential use of f usion-welded SA-312 Type 304 stainless steel pipe in Callaway 1 and Wolf Creek units. These responses indicated that fusion welded materials of the type described in the sub-ject bulletin have not been used in piping systems or components fur-nished by the Lead A/E in which tne design hoop stresses equal or exceed 25 percent of ASME allowchle. Data concerning the use of these materials in nonpiping components furnished by the NSSS supplier and in replacement piping purchased directly by the Wolf Creek constructor were under exam-Since that time, ination at the time of the most recent, Ref. a) update.

we have completed our investigation and are able to report that none of these additional materials are either in use or scheduled for use in systers or ccmponents in which design hoop stresses equal or exceed the 85 percent code criteria.

If you have further questions in this matter, please contact the under-signed.

Very truly yours, S. . Seiken QA Manager SJ5:dck:5a29 cc: Mr. J. A. Keppler, Dire-tor, Region III USNRC
