This letter is a request under the Freedom of Informt. tion Act as amended (5 U.S.c.
Section552).
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has recently directed the Licenseen for both the Indian Point and Zion nuclear plants to begin a study to identify extra design measures to protect against a core melt accident. Theoretically, these design measures should buy additional time in the event of an accident to allow for evacuation of densely populated areas surrounding these sites. These design measures include but are not linited to controlled filtered venting systems of reactor containments and

I am requesting all documents related to this new staff position and all documents which contain information bearing on the demographic characteristics of the Zion site, emergency measures which can be taken to protect the public in the event of an accident, and all "open items" between the Staff and Licensee concerning design and safety issues -
related to Zion.
