Dear Sir:

South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 IE Bulletin No. 80-03 Bulletin No. 80-03, received February 7,1980, has been reviewed by Houston Lighting and Power Company. Charcoal adsorber cells have been purchased for the South Texas Project; however, a visual inspection is not possible since the cells have not yet been manufactured.

Problems of the sort described in the Bulletin are not expected at the South Texas Project due to di fferences in adsorber cell construction. Rather than attaching the perforated screens with rivets spaced 6 inches apart, the South Texas Project adsorber cell screens will be spot welded at 1-3/4 inch spacing.

This will ensure adequate contact between the adsorber cell casings and screens.

If you have any questions, please contact us.

Very truly yours, f=2w E. A. Turner Vice President Power Plant Construction
