1 Gentlemen:
This refers to your August 8 and 30,1979 requests for route approvals for shipments of irradiated fuel rods.

' I We have determined that the review of licensee route approval requests is subject to the Commission's license fee schedule in 10 CFR 170.
For materials licenses, fees for the review of route approval requests will be assessed under fee Catggory 13 of Section 170.31, as special projects.
In accordance with Footnote 8 of 5170.31, the charge for the review will be based on the professional n'anpower required to conduct the review.
In determining the fee to be charged, only actual staff time expended for the review of the request is used to calculate the fee; the route (field) survey conducted by the ilRC staff is excluded from fee computation.
The review of your request for route approval was completed October 23, 1979 (copy enclosed). The cost of flRC's review amounted to 51,634 (43 man-hours 0 $38/m-hr).
We have notified the Office of the Controller to issue your Laboratories an invoice for the review fee.
We apologize for the delay in notifying you of the fee requirement for route approval reviews.
