Supplemental Information Concerning Confirmatory Piping Analysis for LLSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 NRC Occket Nos. 50-373 anc 50-374
Dear Mr. Sournia:
As a follow-uo to our February 29, 1980 telecon with the NRC and their Consultants, I am forwarding herewith two copies of tne following:
1.
The NRC questions that formed the basis of our telecon with them, designated, " Appendix B, Questions to S&L, Analy sis o f Piping System 1RH40BA-12".
Our resocnses have ceen added following these questions; therecy, confirming the clarifications provided in the telecon (Attachment I).
2.
Sargent & Lundy analytical drawing M-1041-4, Revision 0, dated 12-12-79, Sheets 1 tnrcugh 4 These drawings nave been updated to reflect the "for record" information submitted from the field (Attachment II).
l 3.
An explanation of tne coordinate system utilizec for input into Sargent & Luncy's piping stress analysis program, PIPSYS, including a sketch of the axes and associatec angle nomenclature.
This will assist tne I
NRC in understanding the information presentec on tne analytical dranings with resoect to support orientation (Attachment III).
4 A cescription of the locations of the displacement time nistories for each of the dynamic loads, along with the simplified models to cetter define these locations (Attacrment IV).
In accordance witn your instructions, by copy of this letter, one copy of tnis informati:n.as sent to Dr. Rodabaugn and Bec/

It is my understancing that you will forwarc a copy to Mr. R. Stevens (NRR-MES).
In reviewing our submittals to the NRC, it was ascertained that accitional information woulc be required by them for the vertical OBE analysis.
The re fore, we have also forwardeo, by copy of this, a computer tape serial number 0987 to Mr. Macre of ORNL for nis use.
A printout of tne file was also submitted for his reference.
Tne format of the tape is the same as tnat previously provideo, namely:
a.
9 track, 1600 BPI, unlabeled b.
IBM-ESCOIC format c.
Record length is 80 characters d.
Block size is 1600 cnaracters The NRC is again recuested to return the taces when the information nas ceen extractec.
If you have any further questions, please direct them to this office.

\\TYAcumeAT lil Explanation of PIPSYS Coordinate System PIPSYS uses two right-handed orthogonal Cartesian coordinate One of these is called the global system (labeled systems. and is associated with the overall structure.
The X, Y, Z) other is called the local / member coordinate system (labeled A, B, C) and is associated with each member.
In scme situations, it is desirable to use coordinate systems other than the X, Y, Z system.
PIPSYS provides the capability to rotate from the global system to any desired orientation at 0'0 and various nodes.
The skew axis is defined by 03, 2
1 shown in the fi@ure enclosed.
corresponds to the 9, 92'83 1
O - XYZ
. original global coordinate system O - XYZ
rotated global coordinate system for Oy, 0,03, rotation 2
The e rotation is the first rotation which is about the 3 axis.
The 0 rotation l's the second rotation which is about the Y' axis.
2 rotation is the third rotation which is about the Z'! axis.
The 03 The rotations, no matter how many used, must be taken in the 1, 2, 3 order.
An X-skew restraint is one whose centerline is aligned with the

axis.
A Y-skew restraint is ene whose centerline is aligned with the Y
axis.
A 3-skew restraint is one whose centerline is aligned with the Z
axis.
Please note that for X-skewed restraints, only 92 should be used (9 =O =0) 1 3
(9 -0 =0 or For Y-skewed restraints, only 0 +03 should be used 1
2 2
9 "9 =0) 2 3
For Z-skewed restraints, only G +93 should be used (9 -0) 2 1
Actation cannot be made out of order - G1 is always first, foll:wed by 9 +93 2
Posit ve rgtations are defined in the enclosed figure.
