NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION

E WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555

%.....}

April 3,1980 OFFICE OF THE CHAIRMAN The Honorable Arthur A. Link Governor of North Dakota Bismarck, North Dakota 58505

Dear Governor Link:

Thank you for your letter of February 28, 1980 concerning the State Agreements program.

I would like to stress that the Commission remains committed to a viable Agreement State program. This program has been successful in fostering better State-Federal relations. We have also noted that other State-Federal cooperative programs are following this pattern, the most recent being the Environmental Protection Agency's working relationships with States in the regulation of solid wastes. The Commission recognizes the valuable contribution made by Agreement States in protecting the public health and safety from ionizing radiation., I am determined to see that we work together to resolve problems that arise in our mutual regulatory programs from time to time.

We look forward to working with the States on matters of mutual interest.

Sincprely,
