Mrs. Elaine Walsh (Patrick) 33 Pheasant Trail

<cui m' Wilmington, Illinois 60481 815/ 476-6193 DEO APR 3 580 CONTENTION:

The "Too Close" Location of G.E.

to existing nuclear plants (Dresden I, Dresden II, Dresden III, Dresden spent fuel storage facility), Proposed nuclear plants (Braidwood and LaSalle), The underground dangers (natural gas pipelines, oil pipe lines, coal mines and gas in the mines), and the Barge traffic of the Illinois Rive r.

BASES:

1)

Possible class 9 nuclear accident as at TMI, Sabotage (psycho, extreme radical, foreign attack) and any other dangerous accident at or near Dresden or G.E.

The ensuing effects on G.E. such as total loss of electrical power to G.E. for longer than ?.

The reason for the ? is; I was not given the length of time G.E. generators could operate the G.E. plant, am assuming I was not directly answered is due to security.

e e

2)

Overlapping of Radio-Active, Ionizing gas, Radon, end many other dangerous emissions of Dresden I (already dangerous Dresden II, Dresden III, Dresden spent fuel facility).

This concentration of all emissions from Dresden's operations, plus G.E.'s if relicensed, would exceed safe limits for me, my family, my gues ts, friends and residents of the area.

I moved here knowing Dresden I was here, and I felt secure moving here, but with Dresden II and Dresden III, fuel s torage on site, plus G.E., I no longer feel secure!

The concentration of emissions, plus normal ones in the air, ground, home equipment, water, etc., is dangerous to all and especially to me.

3)

All existing and proposed nuclear reactors and G.E.

this i

vicinity (60 miles) are either on the Kankakee River, which empties into the Illinois (Zion on Lake Michigan, into the DesPlaines, and into the Illinois) and the Illinois into the Mississippi, and the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, any accident, nuclear or affecting the nuclear would be as bad as the planning is of the nuclear sites, and storage site.

4)

Loss of our most precious of our resources, (an already 1

dangerously low supply) WATER!

Water is needed to cool spent fuel rods!

(Would take all of Lake Michigan to cool i

just one spent fuel rod.)

l l

n 4

Plus tha excess of electricity needed to operate G.E. and the ensuing demand for more and more electricity needed to operate G.E. if relicensed.

The additional large demana for WATER!

This constant demand for more WATER and Electricity is depleting our WATER levels and posing serious problems in the very near future !

The demand for more electricity is causing the increase of rates to ridiculous costs we will be unable to pay.

The cost to all users is increasing with nuclear, not decreasing as per ads.

The number of kilowatts used by G.E. is out of sighc, just to keep the rods cool, and to operate G.E.

The amount of WATER. needed to cool the rods is even more serious to everyone.

I am total electric; dependent on it for every drop of water in our home, all my heat, cooking, heating my water, e t'_.

I have to have air conditioning per Doctor's orders; I have to have electric to live.

As we are our own municipality, each home in this area is dependent on electric.

But, Electricity is of no help to me when the WATER is gone or I am dead of radiation containments, with the location of and concentration of nuclear-related sites, and their emissions.

I might add, my second tour c, G.E. on January 17, 1980, I was asked to get on the monitor used by employees.

Others in our group did not have any count of radiation; I registered on every count as radioactive.

Am very sure it is not due to i

s 4

f.

touring G.E. twice, October 1979 and January 1980, or Dresden, November 1979, or six x-rays, October 1979, ordered by my doctor.

It is due to where I live !

Too close to G.E. and Dresden.

I am right in the prevailing wind emissions!
