(Three Mile Island Nuclear Statioli~ ITriit 1)

Docket No. 50-289

Dear Mrs. Aamodt:

The Staff wishes to update one of its responses contained in "NRC Staff Response to Intervenor Aamodt Interrogatories, sets One and Three Through Six" dated March 31, 1980 (Staff Response). Specifically, the Staff's response to Interrogatory Numbers 32 and 33 to your Sixth Set of Inter-rogatories made reference to the operators' licenses as being the only sources of information provided by the Staff regarding operators' responsi-bilities and the hazards of nuclear power generation.

Recently, the Staff met with operators for facilities that were about to be licensed to instruct them as to their importance to the safe operation of nuclear reactors. Enclosed is a brief summary of a meet-ing that was held between Harold Denton, Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, and the operating supervisors for North Anna Unit 2 that was held on March 20, 1980 regarding this matter. Mr. Denton's remarks were not written, and hence no other documents can be furnished you at this time regarding this matter.

It has not yet been decided whether such a meeting would be held with TMI-1 operating supervisors if the facility were authorized to resume operation.

Sincerely, hcU 7 Daniel T. Swanson Counsel for NRC Staff l
