Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:
Mr. L. S. Rubenstein, Acting Chief Light Water Reactors Branch No. 4 Division of Project Management U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555
Dear Mr. Rubenstein:
In the Matter of the Application of
)
Docket No. 50-327 Tennessee Valley Authority
)
TVA and Westinghouse met with the NRC staff on March 20, 1980, to discuss the subject of control rod guide tube support pin cracking.
A summary of the Westinghouse presentation, including the recom-mended resolution, was transmitted to S. S. Pawlicki of the NRC staff by T. M. Anderson on April 23, 1930, in Westinghouse letter NS-TM-2235.
Since the March 20, 1980, meeting, TVA has replaced the original control rod guide tube support pins at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant unit 1 with the new pins described in the Westinghouse letter. The new pins were manu-factured using heat treatment processes that provide extra:aely low susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking. The installation of the new pins eliminates the potential for guide tube misalignment and con-comitant restriction of control rod movement.
Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY
