INADEQUATE QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR NCCLEAR SUPPLIED EQUIPMENT IE Bulletin 80-02 dated January 22, 1980 (Inadequate Quality Assurance for Nuclear Supplied Equipment) requested that Consumers Power Company supply information regarding equipment (feedwater spargers and thermal sleeves) manufactured by the Marvin Engineering Company of Inglewood, California.

This equipment, at the Big Rock Point Plant, was not manufactured by Marvin Engineering Company.

Enclosed is Consumers Pcwer Company's response to each item of the subject IE Bulletin.

Since Marvin C.ngineering is principally a subcontracting company, determine if your eytipment originated with Marvin Company and was eventuall supplied to your facility through another contractor / supplier.

1.b Provide a description of this equipment to include its purchase date and its design function during both normal and accident conditions.

For each piece of identified equipment, provide the performance history associated with its usage. This should include the cause of any failures or malfunctions and the frequency of such events.

Equiment not sapplied by Marvin Engineering Company. However, equipment has been in se vice for 18 years with no known malfunctions.

Provide information on the suppliers and receiver's QA/AC program in effect at the time of purchase. This information should be discussed in terms of it providing sufficient bases for judging that the integrity of the equipment is sufficient to permit plant operation during normal and accident conditions.
