SUBJECT:

ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE -UNIT 1 Docket No. 50-313 License No. DPR-51 Lessons Learned Implementation - Automatic Initiation of Emergency Feedwater (File: 1510.3)

Gentlemen:

Pursua'nt to your letter of March 27, 1980, Arkansas Power & Light Company herein provides our commitment to provide a safety-grade Lystem for automatic initiation of emergency feedwater flow for Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 1.

While the specifics of our proposed design are still under evaluation at this time, we wish to allow time for incorporation of whatever a?ditional feedwater system requirements may come from NUREG-0667 prior to submittal of our final design for your approval.

Based upon early notification of additional feedwater system requirements and timely incorporation of these requirements into the final design, we will be able to implement this long-term lessons learned requirement during our next refueling outage.

This outage is currently scheduled for early 1981.

Very truly yours, David C. Trimble, Manager, Licensing DCT/DGM/lp MEMBER M2OOLE SOUTH UTILITIES SYSTEV
